Stay Updated On What's New In The Puzzle World
In honor of National Elephant Day on September 22nd, I’ve had an elephant in my room, on my puzzle board, all month long!
My love of elephants harkens back to my grandmother who always had elephant statues in her home. They had to have their trunks up and be facing the door, which according to her - and Vastu Shastra, the Indian science of architecture - brought good luck and guarded the home against negative energy. How a French Canadian woman who had never been abroad in her life knew this is beyond me, but one of the few keepsakes I have of her is a wooden elephant that I keep facing the door!...CONTINUE READING

Not only did I complete beach-themed puzzles for this month’s blog, I’m also fortunate enough to be writing this as I sit overlooking beautiful Shell Key, an island in Pinellas County, FL, as an osprey grooms itself just feet from me. If that isn’t inspiration, I don’t know what is! Although it does make it hard to focus on writing instead of the view…CONTINUE READING

As today is National Go Fishing Day, I thought I’d reel you in with puzzles that honor the fourth most popular participation sport in the country!
My husband and I are among the estimated 54.5 million recreational anglers in the US who love spending time out on the water. Fishing looms large in our story. On one of our first dates we went shad fishing together and a steelhead fishing trip to the Hoh Rain Forest in Washington state convinced my husband that he would not let me be the one that got away. We were up before dawn fishing in snow when I got caught getting out of the drift boat and fell in the water. He thought for sure the rest of the day would be ruined, but despite being soaking cold, he was amazed that I never carped once...CONTINUE READING

For those of you who, like me, love illustrated puzzles, it’s time to celebrate because May 5th is National Cartoonists Day! On this day in 1895 readers of the New York World opened their paper to discover a colorful new feature in their paper - the first comic strip, Hogan’s Alley (which became The Yellow Kid) created by Richard Outcault. When I was young, I’d arm-wrestle my sister for first go at the Sunday funnies, would plonk down in front of the TV set for hours watching cartoons, and now that I’m grown, my shelves are groaning with cartoon puzzles. I guess I’m still a big kid at heart!...CONTINUE READING

The Academy Awards airs on March 10th and it’s hard to believe when the first one took place in 1929 with 270 people in attendance, it lasted for only 15 minutes! They run a tad longer now, but thankfully, the Academy instituted a 45-second acceptance speech rule after the 2002 ceremony ran for a whopping 4 hours and 23 minutes. Still, I suspect there will be plenty of time to do a puzzle (or two) as you watch and here are some nominations for ones you may want to choose from!...CONTINUE READING

Love is in the air and it’s time to celebrate Valentine’s Day - originally a pagan Roman fertility festival before Pope Gelasius appropriated it back in 500 AD; or a holiday that honors all forms of love (friends, family and self) such as Quirkyalone Day, also on February 14th; or Singles Awareness Day on February 15th...CONTINUE READING

January 5th is National Bird Day, a day set aside to promote the conservation of wild birds. While I am not a twitcher or ornithologist, I often feel like I’m in an episode of Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom, as I enjoy watching the many species that call the Florida lake I live on home. Because of the joy they give me, many bird puzzles tend to nest on my shelves, and in honor of the day, here are a few that roosted on my board this month!...CONTINUE READING

I was so excited to hear that not only was Puzzle Warehouse going to start carrying Micro Puzzles, but I was also asked to write a blog about the brand. I truly love their niche - 150-piece, incredibly vibrant mini puzzles created by talented artists whose artwork I find incredibly appealing...CONTINUE READING

I have a confession to make. Christmas Day itself is not my favorite holiday. However, I adore everything about the pageantry that surrounds the lead up to the day – carols, cookies, festivals, and of course…puzzles!...CONTINUE READING
