My collection is titled “The Breaking”.  In this collection, I’ve explored the themes of heartbreak and disappointment as it relates to the female experience of betrayal. I have layered vibrant abstract backgrounds with bold figures and portraits to reflect the chaos and paradox of emotions and thoughts that swirl through our beings as we experience such a life changing event.  The raw marks and unfinished style of the drawings mirror the raw states of our hearts when we experience hard things.  Things change us.  We have such little control over what happens to us, but we have all the power in the world to determine how those things shape us.  Madeline Barry - Artist 

This is a piece about sisterhood- the friends that are there in the pain and the dark moments and are also there when it’s time to let loose.

There’s a certain grit when we ban together, a certain optimism that floods us just by being in the presence of other women.

Our outlook changes by simply knowing they too understand pain, heart ache, grief. There is a beautiful comfort that comes from knowing that “our women” are glad to be with us- regardless of how well we are doing or whether our life looks nice and tidy.

And we laugh. We can’t help but laugh as we comfort one another. We let loose, we comfort, we hold each other's shoulders over a drink and we dream of what good might be to come.
