Wood You Like to Puzzle? Our Premium Puzzles!
There’s something truly special about a wooden jigsaw puzzle. The click of the pieces, the intricate cuts, the way each piece feels crafted rather than stamped — it’s an entirely different puzzling experience. Over the years, I’ve had the chance to explore this world in depth, even attending events dedicated solely to the art of hand-cut wooden puzzles. Watching master cutters at work, it’s clear why these puzzles are treasured as both games and heirlooms.
But wooden puzzles aren’t just for collectors anymore. Thanks to modern laser-cut technology, puzzlers today can enjoy the precision, whimsy, and durability of wooden puzzles at a more approachable price point — though they’re still a bit of a splurge compared to cardboard. Many puzzlers have never tried a wooden puzzle before, and I think it’s an experience everyone should have at least once.
At Puzzle Warehouse, we’re thrilled to carry a growing collection of premium wooden puzzles — from hand-cut masterpieces to laser-cut works of art — so you can discover the difference for yourself.
What Makes Wooden Puzzles Special
If you’re new to wooden puzzles, here’s what sets them apart from standard cardboard puzzles:
Unusual Piece Shapes – Wooden puzzles often feature wild silhouettes, adding an extra layer of challenge. Sometimes, it’s easier to search for a shape than for part of the image.

Whimsies – These themed shapes (like animals, objects, or icons) are unique to wooden puzzles. Many puzzlers save whimsies for last as a fun tradition. Whimsy pieces are my favorite part of a wooden puzzles. Each puzzle's whimsies are themed to the puzzle. For example, in the photo above, there are bunnies and vase shaped pieces in the bunny puzzle. Below we have pieces shaped like flowers and butterflies.

Twice the Time, Twice the Fun – Wooden puzzles usually take about twice as long to solve as cardboard puzzles of the same piece count, extending your puzzling enjoyment. I love taking my time with a wooden puzzle, it helps me feel like I've got my moneys worth a bit more. A typical 250 piece wooden takes me as long as a typical 500 piece cardboard puzzle.
Thicker, Sturdier Pieces – With pieces often around 3-5mm thick (depending on brand), wooden puzzles are easier to grip, especially helpful for those with arthritis or dexterity challenges. I love doing my wooden puzzles on my achy days cause the thickness is easier to grasp.
The Scent of Wood – Because they’re laser cut, wooden puzzles often carry a faint burnt wood aroma. Victory puzzles have only a mild scent that quickly dissipates. This is something good to know ahead of time cause some brands can be VERY fragrant and may need airing out if you are sensitive to scent.

Heirloom Quality – Wooden puzzles are built to last. Many puzzlers collect them, replay them on special occasions, or even pass them down as family treasures. I purchased my first Wooden puzzle as a treat for Christmas. It is one I still do every year with my husband as tradition.
These qualities make wooden puzzles not only enjoyable to solve, but also meaningful to keep and share.

The History of Victory Puzzles
Victory is not just another puzzle brand — it’s a revival of a legend. Originally founded in the 1920s in the U.K., Victory quickly became known for its finely crafted wooden puzzles. These puzzles were hand-cut by artisans with scroll saws, making each piece slightly unique and every puzzle a one-of-a-kind experience.
During the mid-20th century, Victory puzzles were a staple in many households. However, as cardboard puzzles became the industry standard due to cost and mass production, wooden puzzles (and Victory itself) slowly faded from the mainstream.
Micro Drama Mini Tin by Victory Wooden Puzzles
Fast forward to today: Victory has been revived and reimagined for modern puzzlers. Using laser cutting technology, the brand can now offer intricate cuts and whimsical designs reminiscent of its hand-cut roots — but at a fraction of the cost of fully handmade puzzles. The result is a brand that blends heritage and accessibility, bringing a historic name back to life for a new generation of puzzlers.

Puzzle Tins
Small but mighty, these mini wooden puzzles contain fewer than 100 pieces and come in portable tins. They’re perfect as a quick “puzzle snack” when you have the urge to puzzle but don’t want to commit to hours at the table. They also make excellent travel companions — small enough to fit on an airplane tray, or you can pair them with Victory’s wooden tray for puzzling on the go. At just around $20, they’re a great introduction to wooden puzzles and make thoughtful gifts.

Artisan Series
The Artisan Series is a direct homage to Victory’s heritage. Each puzzle design begins as a hand-cut scroll saw puzzle by master maker Mark Cappitella. That unique cut is then carefully traced and digitized so it can be recreated with precision laser cutting. The end result? A puzzle that captures the feel of traditional hand-cut wooden puzzling, but at a price point more accessible than one-of-a-kind handmade puzzles. I've done several hand-cut puzzles from Mark and he has a very unique cut on the scroll saw. Seeing the same cut in an intricate patterns in a laser cut is so fun. If you want a challenge, this is the one to go with!!
Eyes Full of Stars by Victory Wooden Puzzles
Whether you’re treating yourself or searching for a gift that feels truly special, wooden puzzles offer a kind of magic that’s hard to describe until you’ve tried one. Each piece tells its own story — sometimes literally, with clever whimsy shapes or unexpected designs.
I’ve found that once you do your first wooden puzzle, it’s hard to go back. They remind us that puzzling isn’t just about finishing the picture — it’s about savoring the process.
