Dog-Walk

Whether you’re a full-fledged jigsaw junkie or an occasional, casual puzzler I’m sure you can relate. Sometimes it’s so easy to get absorbed in a puzzle that you lose all track of time. I tend to do this far more than I care to admit. Sometimes the only thing that breaks my puzzling reverie is the sound of muttering and mumbling by someone none too happy at being ignored. “Just a couple more pieces…” I answer, and when “a couple” invariably becomes ten or twenty pieces, the impatient mumbling turns into a few loud woofs from under my puzzle table. Bounce is clearly stating that it is—once again—long past time for his walk...CONTINUE READING

Chinese-New-Year

If your New Year’s resolution was to spend plenty of time enjoying jigsaw puzzles, I hope your year is off to a great start! It’s always seemed strange to me that January, a month in the dead of winter--or summer, depending on which hemisphere you’re in—kicks off the “new” year. (We can thank the ancient Romans who moved the start of the year from March to January, the month named for Janus, the god of all beginnings.) In my humble opinion, the Lunar New Year--often called the Chinese New Year in the West—makes a lot more sense!...CONTINUE READING

Diners-Drive-Ins

Diners have been quintessentially American eateries for over a century and have been featured in just about every facet of pop culture. Just think of all the movies and TV shows where the neighborhood diner was a focal point. Heck, there’s even a Food Network series devoted to them! It’s no wonder that diners and drive-ins are a popular nostalgic theme for so many jigsaw puzzles...CONTINUE READING

All that White

Are there any cold weather and snow lovers out there? No? Just me? Hopefully there are a few of you to join me in my love for all things winter, because I am 100% a snow baby for sure! When we moved here from Minnesota, I was in fourth grade, and always tried to walk to school in shorts and a T shirt in the middle of winter. To avoid Child Protective Services getting called, my parents compromised that I had to at least wear jeans, and pack a coat in my book bag so I could prove I had the necessary warm attire. Later on, when I went on a skiing trip with my youth group in high school - I definitely skied in waterproof pants … and a T-shirt! For me- the colder the better!...CONTINUE READING

Artist Spotlight: Susan Winget

No matter the time of year, I can always count on puzzles with artwork by Susan Winget for a comforting take on the season. There’s such warmth to all of her images, and they often feature adorable animals or nostalgic Americana elements. So this winter, it’s no surprise that I have several Susan Winget puzzles in my to do pile!...CONTINUE READING

Cookies & Cocoa

It’s that time of the year. We’ve finally made it to the holidays – a time of good cheer, of making memories, of kindness and Christmas songs. It’s a time of taking stock of the year past and being thankful and for time-honored traditions, like puzzling and baking. I’m looking back at a year of puzzling with gratitude to Puzzle Warehouse for giving me an opportunity to share some thoughts and, most importantly, puzzles with you all...CONTINUE READING

Armchair Travelers' Souvenirs

You’d never know it based on the past few years, but I absolutely love to travel! Whether it’s by plane, train, or automobile I’m all in, and someday I need to add a ‘ship’ to that list and take an Alaskan cruise. Since a trip to Europe was cancelled thanks to Covid a few years ago, my passport has been in a drawer, and my excursions have consisted of driving one state to the east to visit my Dad. I’ve suddenly become the epitome of an armchair traveler, vacationing vicariously watching episodes of “The Amazing Race!” Clearly, I need to pack a suitcase and go…somewhere!...CONTINUE READING

Downtown

What’s the largest puzzle you have ever put together on your own? 1000 pieces? 2000? 4000? Even more? Previously, the largest puzzle I had ever completed was 4000 pieces, but I decided it was time to up my game. I always chose my high-piece count puzzles very carefully so that I won’t get discouraged while working on them, and when I saw this 6,000 piece puzzle, titled Downtown from Clementoni, I knew it was the one. I really love artwork by Ciro Marchetti (see my artist spotlight), I knew I liked the quality of the brand Clementoni, and, most importantly, it looked like there was enough variety in the image for me to be able to finish it at such a large size...CONTINUE READING

Peace, Love & Puzzles

Even though I was born too late to be part of the 60s hippie culture, I think I’ve always been a bit of a flower child at heart. Since August is the month the Woodstock Art and Music Festival was held (in 1969) and also happens to be when Hippie Fest is held in my town for a weekend, it seemed like the perfect time for some peace, love and puzzles with a nostalgic bohemian vibe...  CONTINUE READING
